It was a rough, rainy, and windy day on Lake Ray Roberts this past Saturday. Anglers who showed up for a chance to win the 1st Annual Abu Garcia REVO Big Bass event and take home a new Dodge Ram 1500 from Allen Samuels Dodge dealt with tough fishing conditions almost the entire weekend. Forecasts warned that the Ray Roberts area could have up to 4 inches of rain on tournament day. However, the 174 boaters who came to compete weren't going to be discouraged by the elements.

The first hour weigh-in saw Mike Howard of Sanger, TX bring in a 7.70 lb largemouth to win the hour. When asked if he thought if it would hold up, he said, "No way, this lake has too many good fish in it. I expect to see one over 10 pounds before the end of the day". Most everyone else agreed. But, as each hour past, the 7.70 was looking like it might be enough to win on this day. One angler stated, "This is the toughest I've seen this lake in a long time. I don't know if it's the front that came through this week, or just the time of year, but it's tough right now." It was so tough, only 3 anglers weighed in during the 2nd hour.
Each hour the overall weights dropped, until the final hour when Zach Parker of Aubrey, TX brought a big fish to the scales. When asked if he thought it was going to be big enough to take the lead, Zach replied, "it's going to be close. It weighed just over 7 pounds on my hand held scales." As the fish was placed on the official scales, everyone was focused on the digital display to see if Zach was going to take the lead. When the scales locked in, and the weight was displayed, Zach was correct, it was close, but not quite enough to take the lead. Only .24 lbs shy of the 7.70 that was needed to tie for the lead.

As the final seconds ticked off the official clock, and scales closed, Mike Howard had won the 1st annual REVO Big Bass, and was awarded the keys to a brand new Dodge Ram 1500, presented by Allen Samuels Dodge. Mike was excited and relieved, " I really didn't think this fish would hold up the whole day. I caught the fish about 7:00 AM this morning on a June Bug colored Texas rigged 10 inch Berkley Power Worm in about 15 feet of water." He continued, "We fish this lake a lot, and I can tell you we go through a lot of June Bug Power worms, It's the most consistent bait we throw.".

After the final weigh in, over $2000 in additional prizes were handed out in drawings, trivia's, and via the REVO pitching contest. Anglers, were given the chance to win a REVO reel -Abu Garcia Rod combo for scoring the highest in the pitching contest. Zach Parker won the contest and took home a $300 combo.
As the awards presentation was coming to a close, Andrew Marks, of Berkley and Pure Fishing, the parent company of Abu Garcia, congratulated everyone and offered his thanks to all the anglers for braving the weather and supporting the event. Mr. Marks stated, "We are very excited about this event, and we look forward to continuing it next year. Hopefully the weather will cooperate a little better in the future. We appreciate all of your support and we hope to see all of you using the new REVO reels for years to come."
