8/3/2008: For Immediate Release:
The stage is set
for the 4th annual International Challenge Event to be held
this weekend, August 9th & 10th on Lake Guerrero, Mexico.
Team USA leads the series 2-1. The Field is
comprised of twelve top teams from the Bass Champs Team Circuit
(see roster below)
and 12 Top teams from the Cana y Carete Mexico Tournament
Trail. The Mexico Team won the the first event in 2005 on
Lake Guerrero, Mexico by a small margin of only 4 pounds.
The next year (2006) the event moved to Sugar Lake Mexico and
the U.S. team decided to join forces and help each other out for
the team. The plan worked and the U.S. team won the event
by over 70 lbs. Last year, The USA team dominated again
with a victory of over 65 lbs. The Mexico team is
ready to make a comeback this year on Lake Guerrero.
Chad Potts, President of Bass Champs stated, "We know
they (the Mexico Team) are coming into the event with
only one thing on their mind, Winning! I know how our
team felt after losing the first event, it's not fun.
Since we've won the last two years in a row, they have
revenge on their mind." Potts Continued, "I believe we
have an extremely strong team this year, but, only a few
of our guys have ever been on Lake Guerrero. We do
have two days of practice this year, so it will
definitely help. But, the Mexico team has been fishing
Lake Guerrero their whole life. It's going to be
very interesting to see how our team adapts to the lake.
Hopefully we can figure out a winning pattern before the
actual competition days."
The USA team is meeting in Mcallen,
Texas on Wednesday, August 6th to cross the border
around noon. The Mexico government has set up an
escort to lead the USA team from the border to Lake
Guerrero. It's about a three hour drive from the
border to the lake. The team will practice
on Thursday and Friday. Both teams will meet
for dinner and the pennant exchange on Friday evening.
Each team will exchange gifts and pennants, then go over
the rules of the event.
Competition will
begin Saturday morning at 6AM and weigh-in will be at 3
PM. Day two is a half day with final weigh-in at
noon. Awards ceremonies will begin at
approximately 1:30 Sunday. The team will
head back to the border around 3PM Sunday afternoon.
The event will
be televised by the Bass Champs TV Crews and will air on
The Outdoor Channel in February, 2009.
